August 16 Monday Day 18

We went to the town of Sussex today. It is such a nice little town with loads of old style buildings and large grand houses.

The shops on Main Street and side streets are filled with giftshops, antiques, interesting art, a micro brewery and many restaurants. As you go further down Main street of course you get to the newer modern side of town that hosts your $stores, groceries, the Wally store and much more. Pretty much the normal of small town living. If I could measure to some of the small towns at home in Manitoba, probably the size of Steinbach but much nicer. I look forward to exploring the town a little more in the near future.

Today we picked up more lanterns for camp. It is still a bit dark at nighttime. Stopped at the Salvation army store and scored! A few crafty bits to play with. Prices at this shop are very good. Stopped at another thrift clothing shop called Frenchy's, these are all over the province. All clothing and a bit of bedding and linen. I did find the most beautiful grad gown decked with mountains of rhinestones and lace overlays but I held back from buying it. I have so many dresses to take apart for projects and I really dont have a lot of space to store anything so must be extremely selective. But it will haunt me I am sure.....

We looked at a house in Kingston that the realtor called the tree house. No wait! let me re-write that sentence. We drove to the address of the tree house to see where it was in relation to what we want and then if we liked the area we would contact the realtor to look at it.

It was a crazy drive of ups and downs for almost 30 minutes on a very narrow road. I nearly lost my cookies a few times. It was an automatic NO WAY! when we saw the driveway on a steep hill. House was so high up it would be deadly in the summer, never mind the winter. There is apparently 8 acres of land, but what they really mean is 8 acres of cliff wall. We have come to understand realtor language much better. Automatically buyer beware if they over describe the land or house and take unusual vegetation photos as part of the description. The river water view was minimal and across the road, not quite what we are hoping for.

While I would love to show you pictures and give you addresses of the houses we look at, I want to respect the privacy of the owner as well as not be too negative. The owners are trying to sell their houses. There is a house for everyone, this is just not for us. Today I am grateful for Thrift shops and a strong stomach.

Here is a picture of R & B Antiques, I plan to explore this shop tomorrow.
